HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah – The 419th Fighter Wing earned an overall grade of “Effective” during a Unit Effectiveness Inspection here Sept. 6-11.

About 50 members of Air Force Reserve Command’s inspector general team based at Robins AFB, Georgia, assessed the wing in four areas: managing resources, leading people, improving the unit, and executing the mission.

Although the overall grade of “Effective” was the same as the wing’s last inspection in October 2016, the unit scored higher in two individual areas, earning grades of “Highly Effective” in leading people and executing the mission.

The IG team inspected an array of wing processes, including building pallets and loading personnel onto aircraft in a simulated deployment.

“This was an opportunity to show how we operate every day and to identify ways we can do it better,” said Senior Master Sgt. James Hill, 419th IG superintendent. “The team inspected all parts of the process, from the moment the wing was notified of its ‘deployment’ until boots were on the plane.”

Under the Air Force Inspection System initiated in 2013, wings have ownership of their inspection process, identifying their own strengths and weaknesses throughout a two-year period. Higher headquarters IG teams then validate the accuracy of those findings during a “capstone” inspection and offer suggestions for process improvement.
