Senior Airman Rebecca Goodman grew up a “military brat” with parents serving in both the Air Force and civil service. Following their lead, Rebecca now works in both worlds: part time as a reservist in the 419th Maintenance Group and full time as an acquisition program manager for the F-22 at Hill Air Force Base.

“I happened to fall into this fifth-gen family, F-22 as a civilian and F-35 as a Citizen Airman,” she said. “I’m trying to develop a great career on both ends as military and a civilian.”

Rebecca, 37, says she is driven and career-focused. She holds a master’s degree in business administration and hopes to become an officer in the Air Force Reserve.

“You feel an instant connection in the Reserve,” she said. “I have a really good support network and mentors who are helping me reach my military goals.”

A self-professed movie buff and book nerd, Rebecca enjoys the occasional “escape” into the Marvel universe or the sci-fi worlds of Stephen King or Anne Rice. She also never misses a Saints game, having spent years in New Orleans as a bartender, among other jobs.

“I’m pretty outgoing and love being around people,” she said. “But I also love getting lost in a good story and spending time outdoors.”
