IN FOCUS: Senior Airman Laura Munoz

UNIT: 419th Medical Squadron

TITLE: Health Services Management Journeyman

FUN FACTS: Laura grew up in Bogota, Colombia, where her family bonded through salsa dancing and going to extravagant festivals. Since moving at age 15, Laura has grown to love Utah. “Moving here was the first time I’d ever seen snow. I remember vividly, my sister and I saw these soft sprinkles and it was magical – something we only saw in movies.” Laura, now 27, joined the Reserve to “make an impact” and develop leadership skills. She earned a degree in health administration from Weber State University and is working on a master’s in business administration. When not serving in the 419th MDS, she works for the Department of Veteran Affairs in Salt Lake City, where she oversees the administration of five clinics. She enjoys studying epidemiology (for fun!) and can also be found outdoors hiking, snowboarding, or running the Ogden Marathon. Laura said she’d love to visit all seven continents, especially small towns. “You learn more about the world when you experience it for yourself.”
