IN FOCUS: Staff Sgt. Kannon Thompson

TITLE: Command Post Specialist

UNIT: Hill Consolidated Command Post
FUN FACTS: Kannon, 28, comes to the Command Post after a six-month deployment to Qatar, four years in the 67th Aerial Port Squadron, and six years in the Marine Corps Reserve that he “wouldn’t trade for the world.” He followed in the footsteps of his grandpa, uncle, and cousin – all wing alumni. He calls himself a “typical handyman” and even completely renovated a 1980s camper. Along with his wife, Camrie, Kannon enjoys camping, fishing, and letting his two young children run wild in Utah’s great outdoors. He’s passionate about helping and connecting with people, from fixing a neighbor’s washing machine to spending time with the elderly. “It’s just how I was raised, it’s how I tick,” he said. The reservist also loves to learn, having so far earned an associate’s degree at Weber State University. “I don’t collect a lot of things, but I collect knowledge.” That includes trivia down to the smallest detail about the Utah Jazz. “Lots of people say they’re a Jazz fan, but not on the level that I am.” Along with having more kids, Kannon looks forward to making a difference in his community by giving his time and service: “I want to make a lasting impression on those I get the opportunity to be around.”
