419th Fighter Wing, 2005 Year in Review Published Feb. 28, 2006 HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- January Citizen Airman saw new missions headed their way as the world rang in 2005. In response to the active duty Air Force’s needs, reservists learned they would take part in Future Total Force initiatives aimed at consolidating resources. 2005 kicked off with the announcement that the 419th Fighter Wing would partner with the 388th Fighter Wing, its active-duty counterpart to accommodate peacetime training and wartime operations February February brought a change of command in the 419th Maintenance Group. Col E. Allan Dalpias relinquished command to Col Jack W. Reed. Colonel Dalpias had commanded the 419th Maintenance Group since October 2002. The Annual Airman of the Year banquet was held to recognize superior performers for 2004. Honorees included Master Sgt. David Warner in the First Sergeant category; Senior Master Sgt. David Chatwin in the Senior NCO category; Tech. Sgt. Rachele Monteleone, NCO category; Senior Airman Michael Monson, Airman Category and Joanie Critchlow (Civilian category). March March saw a change of command in the 466th Fighter Squadron as Lt. Col. Michael Brill relinquished command to Lt. Col. Andrew Larson. Colonel Brill became the commander’s liaison for the Future Total Force Initiative. April The 67th Aerial Port Squadron was named top aerial port unit in AFRC. More than 45 employers of 419th FW reservists experienced the wing’s mission and operations first-hand during the annual Employer Appreciation Day. Employers received a mission briefing, a tour and a flight aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker aircarft to observe and aerial F-16 refueling. May The 419th Fighter Wing conducted a Phase II Operational Readiness. Exercise. The ORE was specifically geared to prepare unit members for situations they will encounter in the Middle East during deployments. The Base Realignment and Closure recommendation list was released. The recommendations called for all 419th FW F-16s to be transferred to Homestead AFB, Fla., and Carswell AFB, Texas. June The Air Force Reserve Command adopted a new recruiting logo that more closely aligns it with the active force while touting the command as a high-tech, professional fighting force. Sleek and simple, the AFRC logo features the Air Force’s new logo along side the words “Air Force Reserve” in a stylish, modern typeface. July Flying operations were temporarily moved to the Salt Lake International Airport due a major runway construction project at Hill AFB. August 419th held its annual Family Day when the wing shows appreciation to the family members of the men and women serving in the unit. Highlights included an appearance by the Utah Jazz Bear, pony rides for the kids, lots of food and performances by a local dance group. September 419th FW Flight operations resumed at Hill AFB upon completion of the runway repair. The wing held a flag ceremony in memory of Sept. 11, 2001 during the September UTA. The first rotation of 419th FW reservists deployed to the Middle East in support of operation Iraqi freedom. This deployment is part of AEF rotation 7/8. The personnel were deployed about 45 days. October The second rotation of 419th FW reservists deployed to the Middle East in support of operation Iraqi freedom. This deployment is part of AEF rotation 7/8. Personnel were home in time for the holidays. 419th Combat Logistics Support Squadron (CLSS) was officially deactivated Oct. 1. Many of the 200 CLSS members were moved to other positions within the 419th FW. November Airmen from the 27th Fighter Squadron, and F/A-22 unit, trained alongside 466th FW personnel during a deployment to Hill AFB. December The third and final rotation as part of AEF rotation 7/8 deployed to the Middle East in support of operation Iraqi freedom. Personnel are expected to return mid-January.
