Col. Laurence Nelson assumed command of the 419th Fighter Wing Medical Squadron from Col. Jim McGreevy during a ceremony here Saturday. Following the ceremony, Nelson had a few words for those under his command.

"The wing commander has faith in us; let's show him what we can do," Nelson said.

The 419th Medical Squadron is made up of nearly 100 personnel who are responsible for maintaining the wing's medical readiness. During the last 10 years, the squadron has prepared more than 3,000 personnel for deployment.

The wing's medical squadron also trains for a wartime mission to augmenting the Expeditionary Medical Support System and may be used to staff a fixed or field medical treatment facility or provide manpower to deployed medical facilities across the globe.

McGreevy is slated to retire next month after nearly 20 years of service.
