Wing welcomes new command chief

The 419th Fighter Wing welcomed a new command chief here Saturday.

Command Chief Master Sergeant Carmen Madia will serve as the enlisted advisor to the commander on all issues regarding the welfare, readiness and morale of the wing's enlisted force. As the highest enlisted leader in the wing, he'll also provide direction for the enlisted force and represent their interests across Hill AFB and throughout the local community.

Madia is a native of Chicago, Ill., and entered the Air Force in 1978. He has an extensive background as an aircrew member in helicopter rescue and special operations and in all facets of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. While on active duty, Madia deployed in numerous U.S. and NATO-sponsored special operations missions.

As a reservist, Madia deployed in various staff positions supporting Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Pacific Warrior, Austere Challenge, Joint Guardian, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prior to assuming his current position, Madia served as an individual mobilization augmentee, or IMA, to the deputy intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance enlisted career field manager, Headquarters United States Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. 

Madia resides in California and works for the Office of Legal Affairs at the California Environmental Protection Agency, Air Resources Board in Sacramento.. He'll travel to Hill AFB once a month to join the wing's 1,100 personnel for unit training assemblies.
