At some point, every Airman in the 419th Fighter Wing has most likely met Staff Sgt. Roxanne Cardwell, NCOIC of customer service in the 419th Force Support Squadron. Public affairs recently talked to Sergeant Cardwell about things most people don't know about her.

Why did you join the Air Force Reserve?

I have two children, and I needed to find some way to get back on my feet. I was divorced and had to start all over. I've always wanted to join the military. At the time, I was married to an active duty Air Force member, and it reminded me of what I always wanted to do. In high school I wanted to join, but they didn't allow single parents at the time. Later on they changed the policy.

What do you enjoy most about being in the Reserve?

It gives me something to be proud of. I love that my kids can say, "My mom is in the Air Force, and she works hard to provide for us."

What CD is in your car right now?

People are going to laugh. I do have Sade, and I have Outkast, which is on the completely opposite side of the spectrum, and John Legend.

What movie character do you most identify with?

I remember a show called "The Sweetest Thing." It's a funny movie about these three women, and I'd say I was probably Christina Applegate in that movie. She's very honest as a friend and very blunt, but in a loving way, and she's goofy and playful.

What is a hobby of yours?

Well, usually I have homework due. My daughter always needs help with her homework, then it's mommy's turn.

What is one thing most people don't know about you?

I was a teen parent who figured out how to make things work. I was in JROTC in high school and had my son, and he became my JROTC mascot. He's actually in my school yearbook.
