Staff Sergeant Frederick C. Danneman, 419th Medical Squadron, Hill AFB, Utah was recently named Air Force Reserve Command's Airman of the Year and will represent the command at the Air Force's 2012 Outstanding Airmen of the Year competition later this year.

"All nominees should be extremely proud of their many achievements and contributions associated with being nominated for these prestigious awards," said AFRC Commander Lt. Gen. James F. Jackson in a recent memorandum announcing the winners.

Danneman is a mental health technician and has been with the 419th MDS for just over a year. He was promoted to staff sergeant late last month.

In 2012, Danneman conducted suicide awareness training for more than 250 new wing members. Working with the active force, he developed a resiliency training module for Reserve explosive ordnance disposal Airmen and provided critical mental health screenings so 29 personnel could return to duty. During last year's Combined Unit Inspection, Danneman instituted a comprehensive checklist, resulting in zero discrepancies.

While attending technical school, Danneman maintained a 94 percent on all exams and made the dean's list for academic achievement. He is now on track to achieve upgrade training six months ahead of schedule. In the local community, Danneman volunteered to assist the Saint Vincent De Paul mission in preparing meals for more than 300 needy people. He was recently accepted into the Mental Health and Counseling graduate program at the University of Phoenix in Murray.

Danneman enlisted in the Air Force for four years in May 2007 as a flightline technician specializing in guidance and control systems on heavy aircraft. While serving with the 1st Special Operations Squadron at Eglin AFB, Fla., he received campaign medals for deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He retrained as a mental health technician when he became a Reservist and came onboard with the 419 FW.
