Maj. Paul Hubenthal assumed command of the 419th Force Support Squadron from Lt. Col. Joseph Randolph during a ceremony here today.

He previously served as the 419th FSS operations officer. Hubenthal received a commission from the Academy of Military Science, McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn. in 1999 after completing 13 years of enlisted service in the Air Force Reserve.

"This story may seem out of context with this cold weather," Hubenthal said during remarks following the ceremony. "But a friend of mine lives in Texas, and one day when he was mowing his lawn he asked the chief who lived next to him, 'Why do we do all this work and get drenched in sweat just to make our lawns look nice?' and the chief said, 'Because our names are on the mailbox; that's why we do it. It represents who we are.' Well, members of the FSS, our names are on that mailbox, and I'm proud to have my name on there with yours."
Randolph served as the 419th FSS commander for three years and now plans to spend more time on his work as an environmental scientist for the state of Utah, he said.

"To the members of the force support squadron, I want to thank each and every one of you for doing a difficult job and doing it well," Randolph said.
