IN FOCUS: Senior Airman Cade Andersen Published Feb. 8, 2012 By Bryan Magaña 419th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Senior Airman Cade Andersen, fuel systems journeyman in the 419th Maintenance Squadron, works in the wing's fuel shop. Born and raised in Utah, the Davis High graduate joined the Air Force Reserve at 28, and has been with the wing for nearly two years. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three children ages 6 and under. Public affairs recently sat down with Andersen to find out more about his professional and personal life. What does your job entail? I troubleshoot and maintain fuel systems for the F-16, including the external fuel tanks. Why did you join the Air Force Reserve? I wanted stability--to be able to go school and work toward an engineering degree at Weber State University. How have you changed since joining the Reserve? I'm a lot more driven. The Air Force helped me set and maintain goals, and stay focused. What was the last thing you Googled? I search for a lot of random product information. I do product development on the side, taking an idea from a concept to the shelf. I've developed scrapbooking products that have sold on the Home Shopping Network and at Wal-Mart. Have you established any family traditions? We do "buddy days" on Saturdays. Me, my father and my two sons spend the day together. We go to the Air Force museum or hit up the dinosaur museum while my wife and daughter hang out together. What's your favorite app on your smart phone? Angry Birds. My son plays it more than I do. What's your first vivid memory? On my fifth birthday, I spent the day with my dad. He bought me baseball equipment so he could teach me how to play. I still like to play when I can.
