Airman Colby Talbot examines each piece of a pilot's flight equipment with a trained eye, carefully testing the gear; if he misses a simple crack or tear, it could be fatal for a pilot. Talbot is an aircrew flight equipment technician with the 419th Fighter Wing Operations Support Flight. He performs inspections on all the equipment that pilots use during flight to ensure their gear functions properly. Talbot has only been with the 419th since August, but he says this is already the most rewarding job he's ever had.

Why did you join the Reserve?

I joined the Reserve because I had always wanted to serve my country, and I just never did it until now. It's helped me be more thankful for the military and those who serve. It really opened my eyes to what everyone goes through. I chose the Reserve over active duty because I wanted to serve my country without moving around so much; Utah is home.

What do you do for a civilian job?

Right now, I'm working for the 419th fulltime (on seasoning training), but I was an electrician.

What's your hometown?

Do you plan on going to college? If so, what would your major be?

I think once I get my 5 level, I'll plan to go to school. My major would be wildlife biology because I grew up in the outdoors hunting and fishing; that's my passion is the outdoors so if I go to college that's what I'm going to go for.

What's your favorite app on your phone?

Probably Pandora because I love music. Whenever I'm working in the shop I always have my phone out playing music.
