In memory: Staff Sgt. John Porter, 1984-2011 Published July 14, 2011 By Public Affairs staff 419th Fighter Wing HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- 419th Logistics Readiness Squadron members are grieving the loss of Staff Sgt. John Porter, 27, who died in a motorcycle accident following duty here July 6. A memorial service was held at the base chapel Tuesday. LRS personnel remember him as a shining star with a volunteer spirit who knew how to make everyone laugh. "He truly exemplified every aspect of an Airman in the most positive way," said Capt. John Young, a logistics readiness officer. "He was always smiling and I don't think I ever saw him frown. He was also always the first to volunteer for every detail we had." Porter was a resident of Logan and is survived by his wife, Kelly. He graduated from Northridge High School, Layton, in 2002 and enlisted in the Air Force Reserve in 2005. Porter was a man with broad interests. In high school he played football, was in the theater and was an artist. He was also an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for target shooting. His obituary read, "John had a love of life, took on every challenge head first, followed his own strong sense of honor, was very outgoing and engaging, curious about life, had a wry sense of humor, was loved by everyone around him, and enjoyed his life to the fullest."
