Last week, the 419th Fighter Wing completed a joint operational readiness inspection with the active duty 388th Fighter Wing here. An Air Combat Command inspection team determined the wings are capable of carrying out their combat mission, but need to be reevaluated in several areas.

During the ORI, ACC evaluators conducted a meticulous review of Hill Airmen's cooperative ability to deploy, respond to emergency situations, and their capacity to survive and operate in an austere environment.

"Operational readiness inspections offer an opportunity for us to dissect our processes and serve as an important tool for identifying areas that need improvement," said Col. Walter Sams, 419th FW commander. "We will carefully examine the operational readiness inspection findings and move full steam ahead to address several areas that fall short."

A second inspection will likely take place in early 2011. It is expected that areas receiving "satisfactory" to "outstanding" scores will not be retested.

"Hill's fighter wings have been tested time and time again during real-world deployments and have proven highly successful in the combat environment," Colonel Sams said. "The ORI findings will help us continue to ensure we're capable of providing the best possible support to the warfighter."

Hill's host unit was also inspected by a team from Air Force Material Command and received an overall score of "excellent."
