Public affairs recently sat down with Senior Airman Jonathan Morris from the 419th Maintenance Squadron as part a series highlighting wing Airmen. Airman Morris, a commercial construction worker in his civilian job, is a Clinton native.

How long have you been in the Air Force Reserve?

I've been in the Air Force Reserve for about a year and three months. I was in the Army Reserve for eight years before that.

What inspired you to switch military branches?

Army deployments are really long. The Army has year-and-a-half deployments and I wanted to be able to finish school so I could apply to Officer Training School. I just didn't see having the time to do that with the Army. I also wanted something more local and more stable for my family.

What are you going to school for?

I am going to school to get a master's degree in project management. I want to get back into the commercial construction field and be a project manager for anything from hospitals to resorts.

What are some of your career goals in the Reserve?

I want to become an officer as soon as possible. I go to school full time so I can have a good career as an officer. I want to serve as long as I can and be in the Reserve until they kick me out. I love being able to serve my country and those who need help. It has become part of my life and who I am as a person.

What do you love about the Reserve?

I love the people. I think that's what makes it. You make such good friends. I can't imagine not being friends with some of the people I've met through the Reserve. It also gives me opportunities to serve other people in ways that I would never be able to do without the military.

What do you do for fun?

I love the outdoors. I live to fish, and also like to shoot guns, be it rifles or pistols or skeet shooting.

Do you have any favorite sports?

I love professional football. My favorite team is the Dolphins. They don't ever do anything. They usually make the playoffs and die the first week.
