Reservists can now live on Hill Air Force Base due to Boyer Hill base housing vacancies and a change in policy.

"The new policy is great," said Dawn Sousa, assistant property manager for Boyer Hill housing. "People want to live in a secure community, and when reservists go on deployments I think they feel better about leaving their loved ones surrounded by other military families for support."

There are currently four Reserve families living in base housing, and there are more vacancies available.

Family size will determine the number of bedrooms the military member is eligible for. A reservist and one dependent will receive a two-bedroom house, whereas a member with four dependents is entitled to a three- to four-bedroom house.

Rent is based on the member's Basic Allowance for Housing rate. For example, E-1 through E-4 would pay $947 for rent per month, whereas an E-8 would pay $1,342.

Rent includes all utilities but cable, Internet and phone is not included.

The lease is set for at least one year and then continues month to month.

"A reservist would be asked to leave if there were no vacancies to offer Active-duty personnel," Sousa said. "In the two and a half years I have worked here we have never been at a 100 percent occupancy rate, so I don't foresee that happening."

Reservists may be released from the lease if they get a civilian job or deployment at least 50 miles away.

If members are interested in base housing, they may call Boyer Hill at 801-776-5001.
