COVID-19 update: Hill AFB moves to HPCON B+

Team Hill Airmen and Guardians,

On Sept. 2, the installation transitioned to Health Protection Condition Bravo + (HPCON B+).

Over the course of the last month, we’ve seen a climb in COVID cases on Hill AFB, community transmission risk, hospitalizations, and percentage of the positivity rate. In response, we transitioned from HPCON Bravo to HPCON B+.

Why HPCON B+?

Locally, we are seeing community risk assessments translate into increased new COVID cases, with COVID positivity rate and hospitalizations rapidly rising. Just in school age children we are seeing 3.5 times more cases than this time last year. In fact, just in the last week our surrounding counties are reporting a positivity rate increase of 15% and a 21% jump on the installation.

Our goal is to keep as many services functioning across the base as it makes sense. There are a lot of lessons learned on this nearly 20 month journey. Rather than shutting the doors, we want to provide safe environments and spaces for teams to socially connect and missions to continue to succeed. You can expect refinements in processes, but not closures in HPCON B+. The key factors to be successful with this transition will be to encourage telework, mask wear, hygiene, and physical distancing.
