HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- The 419th Civil Engineer Squadron held a change of command ceremony here Jan. 7, 2024, as Lt. Col. Jennifer Burghdorf relinquished command to Maj. Michael Hanagan.
Burghdorf has served as commander of the 419th CES since 2021. She thanked the command for supporting and recognizing the work of her squadron and expressed that it would be in good hands, having known Hanagan for eight years and the quality of his work.
Hanagan joined the Air Force in 2005 as a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy where he was commissioned as a Civil Engineer Officer in May 2009. Prior to taking command, he was the deputy commander for the 452nd Civil Engineer Squadron at March Air Reserve Base, California.
Hanagan served 5 years of service with active duty before transferring into the Air Force Reserve. He has completed two short tours, one deployment and one extended Military Personnel Appropriation assignment to numerous locations including Greenland, South Korea, and Africa.
The 419th CES is home to nearly 150 reservists who train in a variety of specialties, from firefighting to entomology. Among more recognized career fields such as explosive ordnance disposal, the squadron also trains reservists in plumbing, electrical, heating and air, heavy equipment operations and maintenance, pest control, and more.
