Paul "Buster" Delmonte, a reservist in the 419th Fighter Wing, took command of the Utah Test and Training Range during a change of command ceremony here Oct. 27. The UTTR is assigned to the active duty 388th Fighter Wing here. Located in Utah's west desert, the range is the largest block of supersonic airspace in the U.S. and is used for air-to-air and air-to-ground combat training by multiple aircrews throughout the Defense Department. Delmonte is employed full-time as an aerial firefighter in the U.S. Forest Service. His civilian employer granted him extended leave so he can lead the UTTR. Relinquishing command was Col. Matthew Dana, who retired after serving as commander since July 2014. Delmonte will serve in this position until it is filled by the active component.
