Staff Sgt. Colleen Payne, avionics technician in the 419th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, ensures a newly replaced F-16 canopy fits properly. Maintainers use generators to simulate electronics in the plane as if it's running.

Maintainers on the flightline must regularly work through cold weather conditions until their job is done, Payne said.

"We're going to be out here in the cold for about four hours," she said. "We have to make sure the curve of the canopy is right, and the electronics are working the way they should."
