419th Fighter Wing Photos

60th anniversary

This photo was taken from a T-33 aircraft in November 1979, when the 466th Tactical Fighter Squadron, as it was then known, hosted Operation Rattler, which included more than 60 F-105s from Hill Air Force Base and elsewhere -- one of the largest peacetime gatherings of F-105s ever. This picture shows 56 "Thuds" on the wing's former ramp, along with F-4s and F-15s, with even more aircraft in the hangars. Some of the nation's very best fighter pilots had roles in this exercise.
